The Kamov Ka-52 is a Russian attack helicopter with a pair of coaxial contra-rotating rotors and a cockpit in which both crew members sit side by side. It is powered by two turboshaft engines mounted on the sides of the fuselage above the roots of the stub wings and reached through hinged covers. The engine section is one of the most conspicuous places in the whole silhouette and is visible at first glance on a model.
The accessory covers the engine on the starboard side of the machine, including the engine bay and its cover. The model can therefore be built with the engine section exposed, with the cover swung open, or with the cover removed and laid beside the machine in a diorama. The parts are shaped for Zvezda kits and for Quinta Studio accessory sets in 1:48 scale.
The parts are not polystyrene, so ordinary cement for plastic models has no effect on them. Glue the joints with cyanoacrylate glue; on larger mating surfaces the gel version, with its longer setting time, works well. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder carefully, so as not to cut into the surrounding detail. Before painting, wash the whole assembly in lukewarm soapy water and let it dry; the paint then holds considerably better. The particular way to prepare the parts is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The set will appeal to modelers who want to show the machinery under the covers and stage a maintenance scene on the model. It calls for patient work in opening up the fuselage, but the result is a place that stays hidden on a model built straight from the box. The package contains only the parts of the starboard engine section. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
