The MD-3 belongs among the tow tractors that serve with the US Air Force and the US Navy to move aircraft on the ground. The machine is deliberately low and flat so that it can pass even under the wing of a parked aircraft, and at the same time it has enough weight to get a machine of several tons moving. In its name it carries the word Mule. On the apron and in the hangar tractors like this are constantly in motion and belong to the scene just as naturally as the aircraft themselves.

It is an accessory for aircraft models and for dioramas: on its own it is a small machine, but next to a parked aircraft it gives the scene scale and action, because it shows the viewer at once how big that aircraft really is. The range of parts and the assembly procedure are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The tractor is small compared with an aircraft, and for that reason every unevenness of the surface shows on it. Wash and degrease the parts before painting and lay the paint down in thin layers so that it does not flood the fine edges. Choose the color scheme according to a specific photograph, because it differs between individual users and periods. Traces of service, that is, rubbing on the edges, dust on the running gear and oil stains, will turn the model into a working machine; without them the scene looks sterile.
