A set of masks from Eduard for the surface panels of the MiG-21F model in 1:48 scale. According to its name it is shaped for Eduard kits.

What the masks are for

A real aircraft does not have a surface in one shade. The individual panels age differently, some are changed during repairs and the sheets reflect light differently according to the direction of rolling. The masks mark out exactly these areas on a model, so they can be oversprayed in a slightly different tone and the surface is then not deadly uniform. The work is easier and more precise than masking with tape cut on the spot, because the shapes of the panels are ready made.

Usage tips

• The masks are stuck onto a dried base coat, that is before spraying the differing shade, not after it.
• The surface has to be clean and degreased, as a mask does not hold on a greasy finish and paint creeps underneath.
• Press the edges of the masks down with a toothpick after sticking them on, above all where they run across raised detail.
• Spray the differing shade lightly and in two passes, as a heavy layer leaves a step at the edge.
• Remove the mask while the paint has only just dried; the longer you wait, the more likely it is to pull the edge of the finish away.
• Unify the result with a final clear coat, which calms the transitions down.

For modelers who build the MiG-21F in 1:48 scale from Eduard and want a surface with depth but do not want to spend evenings cutting tape. It also suits those who are only starting out with panel shading, because the shapes are given and cannot be cut crooked.
