The Real Subject

The MiG-23 was among the types whose pilot changed the wing sweep angle in flight, depending on whether speed or a short takeoff was needed. The ML version is a later, lightened evolution of the fighter variant, and the MLD is the final production version derived from it for the Soviet Air Force. The cockpit equipment on these versions differs from the earlier series, which is why a separate set exists for them.

How the Set Works

The set consists of 3D decals. They have a raised relief and a factory-finished color print, carried on decal paper from which they slide into place after a short soak in lukewarm water. They cover the instrument panel, side consoles, controls, and seatbelts. The set is prepared for Trumpeter kits in 1:48 scale.

Procedure

First paint the plastic cockpit parts with the interior base color and coat them with a gloss varnish, for example Future/Klear or Tamiya X-22. The decal has no adhesive layer of its own and holds best on a smooth, glossy surface. Soak the cut-out piece for about 15 seconds in lukewarm water, slide it off the paper into place, and press it with a soft applicator from the center toward the edges so the relief settles into the recesses. For convex consoles, work in shorter sections and fix the edge with a drop of cyanoacrylate. Do not use decal softener or setting solution — the chemicals would damage the printed resin. Even out the sheen with a matte varnish only at the very end.

Who It Is For

It will appeal to builders of late MiG-23 versions who want a cockpit with legible instruments under the open canopy without having to paint each dial by hand. The package contains only decals. The model, paints, and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
