An accessory from the Polish brand MASTER for modelers who are building the MiG-29 fighter in 1:48 scale and want a metal part on the tip instead of a plastic one. The package contains the tube itself, not a model, armament or an interior.
The most common reason for the swap is the look: a turned tube has a real bore in its face and sharp, accurately stepped changes of diameter. The second reason, though, is purely practical: a metal part does not have to go through the painting process at all. After a light polish and a darkening with bluing solution, bare metal looks like a real metal sensor better than any metallic shade out of a bottle, and above all there is nowhere for the paint to rub off. Anyone who still wants the tube in the color of the airframe has to degrease the metal with alcohol and back it with a primer for metal surfaces.
Cut the plastic original off with a scalpel and level the rest with a file so that the seating face is square. Drill the hole with a micro drill, working up from a smaller diameter, or the drill will wander in the smooth plastic and the tube will sit crooked. Glue it with super glue; for more time to line the axis up, use epoxy. Check the axis from two views. Fit the tube only after the painting and the decals are finished: you will save yourself masking and lower the risk of bending it. When cleaning the finished model, avoid a brush with hard bristles around the tip; you will not break the metal, but it can be bent.
