The richly equipped collector's set Mighty Eight: 65th Fighter Wing from Eduard in 1:48 scale. The basis is Eduard's plastic tooling, completed by pre-painted etched parts, resin parts of the Brassin line (wheels and two types of exhausts) and a set of painting masks. Decals for 13 color schemes of machines of the American Eighth Air Force, 65th Fighter Wing (the 4th, 355th, 361st and 479th Fighter Groups) are included.
The P-51D Mustang was the peak production version of one of the most successful fighters of the Second World War. It was powered by the license-built Packard Merlin V-1650 engine, the armament consisted of six .50 caliber machine guns in the wings and its characteristic feature was the teardrop canopy giving a view in every direction. Thanks to its long range the P-51D served as a long-range escort fighter for bomber formations over Germany in 1944 and 1945, where it contributed significantly to winning air superiority.
The pre-painted etched parts speed up a detailed cockpit and instrument panel without laborious painting. The resin wheels and exhausts improve the most visible parts of the model – we suggest separating them from the casting blocks with a saw. Most of the schemes call for a natural metal finish, so a good base coat and metallic paints (for example lacquer metalizers) applied in shades that tell the individual panels apart pay off. The masks make it easier to spray the canopy and any invasion stripes cleanly.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
