A replacement tail surface with a corrected shape for the 1:48 PBY Catalina kits from Revell, Monogram and Eduard. The original part is cut off and replaced.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Consolidated PBY Catalina was one of the most widely used American seaplanes of the Second World War. The PBY-5 version was a flying boat, the PBY-5A an amphibian conversion with retractable wheeled landing gear, and under the designation OA-10A the machine served with the US Army Air Forces for search and rescue. The long wing carried on a pylon above the fuselage gave the aircraft an endurance that land-based machines of the day did not have.
This is a replacement tail surface with a corrected shape, intended for the Catalina kits in 1:48 scale from Revell, Monogram and Eduard. The original part is cut off the kit and replaced by the new one, so that the outline of the vertical tail and the rudder comes closer to the real aircraft without lengthy filling and rescribing.
Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest away carefully. Before gluing, check dry how the part meets the fuselage and even out any difference by sanding the cut face. Choose the glue to suit the material of the part: cement for polystyrene may not act on it, while cyanoacrylate glue holds reliably. Wash and degrease the surface before painting, otherwise the paint will take hold less well.
The set suits modelers who want to correct the shape of the tail on their Catalina and do not want to shape it out of plastic themselves. It calls for a steady hand when cutting, otherwise the work is straightforward.
The set complements a kit, which it does not contain. Paints and glue are not in the package, unless stated otherwise.
