The left T700 engine with open nacelle cowlings for 1:48 scale models of the H-60 family. It lets you build the helicopter with the cowling opened and the powerplant exposed.
Responsibility details are not available.
The General Electric T700 turboshaft is the heart of every version listed in the name of the set, from the naval SH-60B and SH-60F through the rescue HH-60H to the later MH-60R and MH-60S. It is an engine with a forward centrifugal particle separator, created in the 1970s specifically to meet an army requirement for a powerplant resistant to sand and easy to change in the field. It was precisely this design philosophy that gave the H-60 family its reputation as machines that can be maintained outside a hangar.
An opened nacelle cowling is the most rewarding diorama motif there is on a Black Hawk, and at the same time the one that cannot be merely suggested. A decal can paint a shadow and photo-etch can suggest a rib, but neither of them makes a space you can look into. The casting brings the powerplant as a solid body: the gearbox casing, the piping, the seams between panels and the inner side of the opened doors. A model gains a second readable layer with it, one that only appears once it is opened.
The set is intended for the left side; the right side has its own counterpart with mirrored geometry. The fuselage of the kit will need a cutout to match the shape of the supplied parts, so it is sensible to mark the position out before the first cut. Degrease the castings, dry-fit the assembly and only then glue. Painting is done in stages before the final assembly, otherwise you cannot get a brush into the interior. The helicopter model and tools are not included in the package.
