An injection-molded plastic kit of the twin-engined version of the Bell UH-1N helicopter, nicknamed the Twin Huey, in 1:48 scale from Italeri. The kit is molded in gray plastic, holds a clear sprue for the glazing and decals for several options. Unlike the single-engined UH-1D, you can tell the UH-1N at first sight by the longer engine housing with two coupled turboshaft engines. The box also covers the civil and military counterpart Agusta-Bell AB 212 built under license in Italy.
The Bell UH-1N is the twin-engined version of the famous Huey. The pair of engines joined through a common gearbox brought higher power and above all safety: if one engine fails, the machine flies on with the other. That is exactly why the UH-1N and the related AB 212 proved themselves in naval and rescue service and with the coast guard. It keeps the two-blade main rotor, the tail rotor and the cabin, but it carries a pair of exhausts above the rear fuselage.
Finish the interior before you close the fuselage up, as it shows well through the glazed doors. Use liquid cement on the plastic, glue the glazing with a glue for clear parts and mask it. Pay particular attention to the assembly of the twin engine housing above the rear fuselage, which is the main visual difference from the single-engined UH-1D. Lay down a primer before painting; naval and rescue schemes tend to be high in contrast, so bring out the panel lines with a wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
