A set of precisely cut 1:700 masks intended for the model of the aircraft carrier Shandong. This is not a kit but a painting accessory: the masks are stuck onto a finished base coat, the second color is sprayed over them and they are then lifted off.
Sprayed markings look different from applied ones — they are part of the paint layer, they leave no step and they cannot peel off or go white along the edges. On the wide flight deck this shows mainly on large areas and on long straight lines, which cannot be kept straight with a brush. The masks also hold their shape where the surface is broken up and a decal would ripple.
The base coat has to be perfectly dry, smooth and free of grease. Transfer the mask with tweezers, settle it in place and press the edges down carefully with a toothpick or a blunt tip — paint creeps under an edge that is not pressed down. Spray at a right angle and in thin coats; a heavy wet coat will run under the mask every time. You can first spray over the mask with the base color, which seals any gaps, and only then lay down the target shade. Lift the mask off as soon as the paint is dry to the touch but not yet fully cured — removing it later will pull the paint away with it. The masks are intended for a single use.
This is an accessory, not a kit. The base model and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
