A-10C cockpit in 1:72 scale

An accessory set for the pilot's station of the A-10 Thunderbolt II ground-attack aircraft in the C version, cut to the GWH kit in 1:72 scale. It replaces the cockpit from the kit with its own parts and, in the basic edition, adds color 3D elements for the instrument panel and the side consoles.

Why the C version in particular

The upgrade to the A-10C standard changed mainly the cockpit: color display panels and new controls were added, so the panel looks different from that of the older machines. It is precisely this difference that is hard to make up from the base kit, and it shows, because the cockpit of the A-10 sits high and the canopy offers a view into the whole space. Finished parts can also carry more detailed shapes of the seat and the walls of the tub than will fit into an injection-molded part.

Building tips

• The parts are not made of polystyrene, so use super glue.
• Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand off the rest.
• Wash and degrease the parts before painting; the manufacturer's instructions give the exact procedure.
• The way the color elements are applied differs between ranges, so follow the manufacturer's instructions.
• Dry-fit the cockpit before you glue the fuselage together and take up any play by sanding.
