An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 fighter in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer Kovozavody Prostejov (KP). KP-JOYPACK is a simplified edition — the name does not mean a package of several models but a more simply equipped version of one kit. For this edition the manufacturer lists one sprue of plastic parts including the canopy, with no decal sheet and no printed instructions; the assembly instructions are available for download from the manufacturer. The markings are therefore chosen and added as you see fit.
The Bf 109G, the Gustav, was the peak of development in the mass production of the Messerschmitt Bf 109, and the G-6 version became its most numerously built variant. It was powered by the inverted V12 Daimler-Benz DB 605, and what set it apart from the earlier Gustavs at a glance were the characteristic bulged covers over the engine, forced on it by the installation of heavier 13 mm fuselage machine guns. The engine armament was complemented by a cannon firing through the propeller hub, and underwing gondolas with further cannon for fighting bombers were common. The G-6 flew on practically every front — over the Eastern Front, in the Mediterranean and in the defensive battles over the Reich.
The kit is of ordinary injection-molded polystyrene; it glues best with a thin extra-thin cement drawn into the seam with a brush. Finish and paint the cockpit before you close the fuselage — in 1:72 it is mainly the seat, the console and the frame of the gunsight that are visible. Glue the transparent canopy with a cement for canopies or a cyanoacrylate gel, never with liquid polystyrene cement (it will fog it). Use a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush in thin coats. German day fighters typically carry gray upper camouflage with a blue undersurface and often mottling on the sides of the fuselage, which is best done with heavily thinned paint at low pressure. Before the decals, go over the areas with a gloss clear coat and even the surface out with a matte one once it has dried; as the edition comes without decals, allow for a sheet of your own.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
