A resin conversion set that turns the British Blenheim bomber into the configuration used by the Finnish Air Force in the second production series. Of all the types of accessory a conversion is the most ambitious category: it is not a refinement of detail but a rebuild, after which the model becomes a different version of the aircraft from the one that comes in the box. The target kit is the Airfix one.
The Bristol Blenheim was a British twin-engine bomber of the late 1930s that also served with a number of foreign users. Finland was among its largest operators outside Britain and built the machines under license as well. The individual Finnish production series differed from the British original in airframe modifications, and it is exactly these differences that the conversion set deals with; without it a Finnish machine cannot be built from an ordinary kit.
A conversion set is the most laborious type of accessory, but at the same time the only one whose result can be seen from a distance: compared with the kit out of the box it is a different aircraft, not just a better-looking one. It is worth it when you want a Finnish machine in the collection or when you collect the national variants of one type. There is no point in buying it as a source of small parts: working with it means cutting plastic, filling and sanding, so it is a job for modelers who have already worked with resin and with airframe modifications.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water. Make the cuts into the plastic airframe slowly, with a fine-toothed saw, and take a little less rather than more, because you can always sand further but adding material back is harder. Bond the conversion parts with cyanoacrylate glue, fill the transitions with putty and sand them back wet with your airways protected. Before painting, check the joints under a matte base coat, where flaws show up best.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
