This is an add-on set of wheels in resin intended for building a model of the tandem-rotor Boeing CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter in 1:72 scale. It is not a model of the helicopter or a kit of it: the set replaces the wheels from the plastic kit with parts that have a finer surface, a more crisply rendered tread pattern and a more readably cast hub. The exact number of parts and the full contents of the package are stated by the manufacturer on the box of the set.
The CH-46 Sea Knight is a medium transport helicopter with a tandem arrangement of two lifting rotors, that is with no tail rotor on a tail boom. In the service of the US Navy and Marine Corps it served for decades to carry people and cargo and to resupply ships at sea. A characteristic feature is the low-set fuselage with a hinged cargo ramp at the rear and fixed wheeled landing gear, so the wheels stay permanently in view and their execution is clearly visible on a finished model.
First separate the parts carefully from the casting block, ideally with a fine-toothed saw. Nippers are not suitable, as they will crush resin rather than cut it. Level the remains of the gate with a file or abrasive paper, watching as you do so that the contact surface of the wheel stays flat and the model does not stand crooked once finished. Then wash the castings in warm water with a detergent, so that remnants of release agent from the mold are removed, and let them dry perfectly. Always apply a base coat to resin, as otherwise the top coat holds poorly and rubs off during handling. They are glued with cyanoacrylate, ideally in gel form, which gives a few seconds to position the part. When sanding, work with respiratory protection, or sand wet.
This is an accessory, not a complete kit. It is supplied unpainted; paints, glue and the base model are not included in the package.
