The Canadair CL-415 is a specialized firefighting flying boat (an amphibian), developed from the earlier CL-215 and in service since the mid-1990s. Its chief strength is the ability to scoop water in flight — a low pass over the surface fills the internal tanks, and it then drops the water on forest or area fires. Thanks to the boat-shaped hull and the retractable landing gear it can operate both from water and from ordinary airfields. Flying boats of this type serve rescue and firefighting services all over the world and usually wear a striking yellow and red firefighting livery that is easy to see from the ground and from the air.
Assemble and paint the cockpit and interior before closing up the fuselage. Mask the cockpit glazing with tape and paint it right at the end. Sand the joints of the boat-shaped hull carefully so it reads as a single float. Apply the striking yellow and red firefighting livery with an airbrush and good masking of the transitions; bright reds and yellows often cover poorly, so a light base coat or a primer helps. Use liquid cement on the plastic and pick out the engraved lines with a fine wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
