This plastic kit in 1:72 scale from Hasegawa captures the F4U-1D Corsair carrier fighter in its finish for the US Navy and Marine Corps. The model is injection-molded, with fine panel lines, and is supplied unassembled and unpainted. A drop tank is usually included.
The Vought F4U Corsair is one of the best known American fighters of the Second World War and was famed for its speed, heavy armament and toughness. Its recognition feature is the characteristic inverted gull wing. The -1D version received a more powerful Double Wasp engine with water injection and a new one-piece domed canopy that improved the pilot's view.
Paint and detail the cockpit before closing up the fuselage. The naval scheme is typically the three-tone blue camouflage, best laid down with an airbrush with soft transitions. Apply gloss varnish before the decals and pull the result together with a matte overcoat. Finish the drop tank and the landing gear separately and fit them at the end.
