An unassembled plastic kit of the Chinese fighter aircraft Chengdu J-10B in 1:72 scale. Paints and glue are not included in the package.
Responsibility details are not available.
The single-engine multirole fighter J-10B was created by reworking the older J-10A type, nicknamed Vigorous Dragon. The prototype first left the ground in December 2008, and the aircraft then went into series production for the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF). It differs from its predecessor at a glance: it has a bumpless supersonic air intake, an elongated, flattened nose radome for a new-generation antenna, a ball-shaped passive tracking sensor head ahead of the cockpit, and added antennas on the vertical tail.
A substantial part of the changes, however, is not visible from outside. Production aircraft received reworked avionics and an expanded electronic-warfare system, so what began as mostly an air-superiority fighter became a machine capable of striking ground targets too. The canard layout with forward horizontal surfaces and a delta wing remained, and it is exactly that layout that gives the type its unmistakable silhouette.
The set is meant to be glued and painted. In the box you will find molded plastic sprues with airframe, landing-gear, and underwing-armament parts, clear parts for the canopy, and a decal sheet with national markings and technical stencils. For the build, have plastic cement, sanding supplies, and paints for your chosen scheme ready, since none of these items ship with the box.
At 1:72 scale, the finished model stays a reasonable display-case size and lets you build the whole family of the type side by side. The difficulty suits a modeler who already has a few completed aircraft kits behind them.
