An injection-molded plastic kit of the Chinese PLZ05 self-propelled howitzer of 155 mm caliber in 1:72 scale from Meng. The new 2025 mold belongs to a range of modern military vehicles in a small scale that the manufacturer builds on a smooth build and fine detail. The assembled model is about 152 mm long. In the package you will find link & length tracks (individual links supplemented by straight runs), fine decals and three marking options. The hatch can be built open or closed and the barrel of the howitzer is movable – so you can set the elevation according to how you want to present the model.
The PLZ05 is a current Chinese self-propelled howitzer of 155 mm caliber, which replaced older systems of the Soviet design school in artillery units. It is characterized by a long barrel, an autoloader and a digital fire control system – a combination that allows rapid fire and shoot-and-scoot tactics, that is firing a salvo and leaving the firing position at once, before counterbattery fire arrives. Depending on the ammunition used the range runs to tens of kilometers. The tracked chassis gives the machine mobility comparable to the tanks it is meant to operate alongside at the same pace.
Start from the running gear – align the wheels in one plane so the tracks seat without tension. Glue the link & length tracks in sections directly on the wheels and let the straight parts sag slightly on the upper run. Spray the hull and the turret with an airbrush: first a base coat, then the base shade with fine modulation (lighter upper surfaces, darker shadows). After the gloss varnish come the decals and a wash into the seams. Do not spare the weathering on artillery vehicles: dust pigments on the running gear and the bottom of the hull, mud deposits on the tracks, the fenders and the dozer blade, metal chipping on the edges of hatches and grab handles. On the muzzle do not forget the dark deposit from the propellant gases – on a howitzer it is a prominent and easily imitated detail. For the small parts in this scale a thin plastic cement and tweezers are the way to go.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
