About product

Dassault MD-450 Ouragan/Toofani Indian AF 1:72 - Kovozavody Prostejov

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Dassault MD-450 Ouragan jet fighter in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Kovozavody Prostejov (KP). This boxing concentrates on the machines of the Indian Air Force, where the Ouragan was flown under the Indian name Toofani. It is the standard edition, not a JOYPACK. The exact contents of the box, that is the number of sprues, decals and schemes, are given in the instructions and on the decal sheet supplied.

The real subject

The MD-450 Ouragan was the first series-built French jet fighter and at the same time the first successful combat jet from Dassault. It first flew at the end of the 1940s and was a classic representative of the first generation of jet fighters: a straight wing, a circular frontal air intake in the nose, a centrifugal-flow Nene engine and gun armament in the form of 20 mm cannon, with the option of carrying bombs or rockets for attacks on ground targets. Besides France it was taken into service by Israel and by India, which gave the aircraft the name Toofani, roughly meaning stormy, the counterpart of the French ouragan, hurricane. The Indian machines were used mainly in the attack role against ground targets and were among the first jet types that the Indian Air Force operated.

Building and painting tips

Glue the classic injection-molded plastic with liquid cement and fill and sand the joints carefully, because on jets with a smooth surface every imperfection shows under the paint. Give the nose some time: the circular air intake is on view, so paint the duct and its surroundings before the fuselage is closed and check whether the model sits back on its tail; if it does, balance it with weight in the nose. Finish the cockpit before the fuselage halves are joined, glue the clear canopy with canopy glue and mask it. First-generation jet fighters often appear in glossy finishes such as natural metal or silver lacquer; those call for a truly smooth surface, a hard gloss primer and airbrushing in thin coats. Always choose the camouflage and the markings of the Indian machines according to the schemes in the kit instructions.

Who the model is for
