Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory decal set for models of the American Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress heavy bomber in 1:72 scale. The subject is the machine with the nickname Spotted Cow, one of the aircraft that carried a painted nickname on the nose together with a matching picture. The package holds decals; the model of the bomber itself has to come from another kit. The maker is the Hungarian brand HAD models.
The B-17F was a continually improved variant of the Flying Fortress, and it can be told from the older series above all at first glance: it was given a one-piece clear nose with no dividing frames, more powerful propellers and a whole range of changes drawn from the first combat experience over Europe. It was powered by four Wright Cyclone radial engines with turbochargers, which let the machine work at great altitude. It was the B-17F that flew through the hardest period of daylight bombing in 1943, when the American formations went over Germany without fighter escort for the whole route and losses were very high.
Painted nicknames on the nose are among the decals that show the most, so set aside some calm for them. Varnish the area with a gloss coat first, soak the decal and slide it into place with a brush so that there is room to adjust the position. On a bomber in 1:72 scale the fuselage areas are large and flat, so the film beds down easily, but a softener helps at the transition onto the rounded nose. It is better to mask the glazing and the gun positions beforehand, so that water with adhesive does not run onto them.
