The kit captures the British twin-engine airliner de Havilland DH.95 Flamingo in the form in which it served with civil operators. Valom is a Czech maker that has long devoted itself to less usual subjects in 1:72 scale and molds them with short-run technology. The contents of the package and the range of schemes are stated on the packaging.
The DH.95 Flamingo was an all-metal high-wing monoplane with retractable landing gear and a pair of radial engines. It came about at the close of the 1930s as a modern machine for short and medium-haul routes and differed from the older wooden de Havilland designs precisely in its metal fuselage shell. Only very few were built, so the same type appeared with civil carriers and later in state and military service as well. The tiny number built makes the Flamingo a subject that is missing from the modeling range considerably more often than the ordinary airliners of that period.
Short-run molds have no pronounced locating pins, so fit the parts dry first and glue them only after that. Cut off the remains of the sprue gates, sand the parting flash down with fine sandpaper and unify the surfaces with a primer before painting, so that any scratches show up. The glazing of the flight deck and of the passenger cabin is a dominant element on an airliner, so it pays to mask it carefully and to spray the frames in two steps. Lay down a gloss coat before the decals, otherwise a silvered edge will appear under the carrier film.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
