Replacement exhaust nozzles for a model of the F-111F bomber in 1:72 scale. The castings have an open throat and the leaves of the area control suggested.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-111F was the most powerful production form of the swing wing from the General Dynamics stable. It received stronger powerplants and the Pave Tack targeting pod, thanks to which it could guide bombs by laser at night. It was exactly these machines that flew from British bases in April 1986 to attack targets in Libya, and five years later they made their name in the Persian Gulf with precise hits on individual armored vehicles. A model of such an aircraft deserves a rear end that stands up to close inspection.
The variable nozzle of a jet engine is the hardest of all the outer parts of an aircraft to reproduce by a flat technique. It is made up of overlapping leaves that converge into a ring and continue further back inside; anyone who tries to solve it with a print or thin sheet gets only a ring with nothing in it. A cast part carries the whole volume at once, including the stepped transition between the outer and the inner shell and the depth into which the view is lost. The difference is clear even without a magnifier.
The original ends of the engine nacelles are cut off square to the axis of the fuselage, otherwise the nozzles will not point straight. The cut faces are sanded down and the castings glued on with cyanoacrylate glue. The metal surfaces of the nozzles are usually handled with metallic pigments or a paint with a metallic effect, over which bluish and brownish toning is laid according to how hard the machine was worked. Leave the inside darker than the outside. According to the product name the set is prepared for the Hasegawa kit, and the aircraft model is not included.
