An injection-molded plastic kit of the Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat carrier fighter in 1:72 scale from the South Korean maker Academy. The model captures the characteristically stocky fighter of the US naval squadrons of the early war in the Pacific, with engraved panel lines, a detailed cockpit and clear canopy parts. The box holds injection-molded plastic sprues and a decal sheet; check the exact contents and markings against the particular edition.
The F4F-4 was the main carrier fighter of the US Navy and the Marine Corps in the first years of the Second World War. It was powered by a radial engine and, compared with the earlier versions, it received Sto-Wing folding wings to save space on aircraft carriers and six heavy machine guns in the wings. It was used at the Battle of Midway among other actions and bore the brunt of the fighting until more modern types replaced it.
Cut the parts from the sprues and glue the joints with liquid modeling cement for plastic. Paint the cockpit interior and pick out its detail before you close the fuselage up. Apply a gloss coat before the decals; add a panel-line wash to the typical blue-gray naval scheme and airbrush light wear over it.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
