Intake covers against foreign object damage for a model of the McDonnell F-4 Phantom II in 1:72 scale. An accessory for a machine shown on the ground.
Responsibility details are not available.
The abbreviation FOD stands for damage to the engine by a foreign object that the aircraft draws into the air intake. To prevent it, intake covers are fitted to machines standing on the ground. On a model they serve two purposes: they close off the view into the intake duct, which from the box tends to be shallow and empty, and at the same time they give the model a striking splash of color, because on the real machines the covers are made conspicuous so that nobody overlooks them before takeoff.
The set is cut for a model of the McDonnell F-4 Phantom II in 1:72 scale. The Phantom has its air intakes on the sides of the fuselage, and they are large and clearly visible, so the covers show to greater effect than on machines with a small nose intake. The scope of the set and the way it is fitted are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The parts are not polystyrene, so modeling cement has no effect on them; they are bonded with super glue applied in a small amount. Cut off the excess material with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder carefully, so as not to cut into the shape of the cover. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, or the finish will not hold. Try fitting the covers dry first, as the contact surface usually needs slight adjustment to the particular kit.
The set serves to complement a kit. The model itself, the paints and the glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
