This detail set contains protective covers for the air intakes and other openings (FOD covers, which prevent foreign objects from getting in) in 1:72 scale for F-4J Phantom II models. It is a resin, 3D-printed aftermarket set from Reskit for more experienced modelers. It serves to depict a parked, secured aircraft on a deck or an apron faithfully; these are not parts of the model but a scenic accessory.
FOD covers are fabric or molded plugs fitted over the engine intakes and the sensitive openings of an aircraft while it stands on the ground. They protect the powerplant and the systems from foreign objects, dust and dirt getting in, and they usually carry conspicuous warning colors and tags. On a model they immediately show that the aircraft is secured rather than ready to fly.
Wash the mold release residue off the parts, cut off the print supports and clean them up gently. Glue them with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); sand with respiratory protection. Spray the covers in strong colors as usual; bring out the tags and the lettering and imitate the fabric surface with a matte clear coat and a light dry brush.
This is a scenic accessory, not a standalone model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
