The supersonic 1:72 Lockheed F-104C Starfighter from Academy is a plastic kit of the American fighter with its characteristic short wing.

This small model from the South Korean brand Academy captures one of the most striking shapes in postwar aviation. The slender fuselage, the minimal wing area and the high-set tail surfaces make the Starfighter a rewarding piece for a display case and a good type for a single weekend of building.
The design came out of a demand by Korean War pilots for a simple and extremely fast fighter. The result was an aircraft with a wing so thin that its leading edge had to be covered on the ground so that the ground crew would not hurt themselves on it. The C version served with US Air Force tactical units as a fighter-bomber: it received pylons for bomb armament and the ability to refuel in flight, which extended its combat radius considerably. In this form it also took part in the fighting in Southeast Asia.
A small scale forgives less than you might think. Fill and sand the fuselage joints smooth so that they do not disturb the impression of a smooth metal surface. The metal shades are the key on this type: apply them over a perfectly smoothed surface and tone the different panels subtly, so that they do not look like patches. Keep the leading edges sharp and do not round them off while sanding.
The model is sold unassembled and unpainted; paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
