A sheet of decals for the French Morane-Saulnier MS.406 fighter in 1:72. It offers eight complete markings — machines of the combat groups GC I/2 and GC III/1 as well as aircraft of fighter schools.
Responsibility details are not available.
In May 1940 the MS.406 was the most numerous fighter of the French Air Force. Mixed wood-and-metal construction, a Hispano-Suiza 12Y engine and a cannon firing through the propeller hub made it a machine that parted ways with its own time before it could make its mark in full: against newer opponents it lacked speed and rate of climb. All the same it was flown by pilots who after the fall of 1939 carried on the fight far from home and whose names appear to this day in every work on the French campaign.
There are eight markings and they divide into two groups. Four belong to combat units: a pair of aircraft of the group GC I/2 with the fuselage numbers L980 and L720, a machine with the number 947 of the 18th escadrille and another of the group GC III/1. The remaining four come from training fighter squadrons, where this type finished its service as a trainer. For two of the combat machines the names of the pilots are given as well, among them Josef Brzezinski and S. Chalupa, so a model can be built as a particular aircraft of a particular man, not merely as a type.
Cut them out as closely as possible along the drawing, dip them in lukewarm water for a few seconds and slide them onto a glossy base. A softener will help the film press itself to the pressings of the covering. Once dry comes the matte overcoat, which hides the edges of the film. Paints, clear coat and softener are obtained by the modeler separately. The sheet will stand ordinary storage in a drawer, only protect it from damp and direct sun.
