1:72 Nanchang Q-5 Yi

Nanchang Q-5 Yi 1:72 (Trumpeter)

This is an injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale depicting the Chinese Nanchang Q-5 jet attack aircraft in the Yi variant. The kit captures a single-seat combat machine with a pair of turbojet engines.

The real subject

The Nanchang Q-5 is a Chinese supersonic attack aircraft intended for strikes against ground targets, known in the West by the designation A-5. In its design it grows out of the MiG-19 fighter family and is marked by a long fuselage with side air intakes. It entered service with the People's Liberation Army Air Force and served in a number of versions for many decades, from the ground-attack role to later modernized variants.

Building and painting tips

Separate the parts carefully from the sprues and clean up the parting lines. Thin plastic cement, a primer and airbrush spraying all work well here. Bring out the panel lines with a wash; on a military aircraft, light weathering of the exhaust and service marks helps.
