An injection-molded plastic kit of the single-seat Nieuport Ni-16 fighter biplane by the Czech manufacturer Kovozavody Prostejov in 1:72 scale. Unlike the sister Aces edition, this box differs in its markings: it offers schemes of less well-known units and of the further air services that operated the machine. The kit itself is identical. The model is meant to be assembled and painted, and decals are usually part of the package.
The Nieuport 16 was a French fighter aircraft of 1916 developed from the smaller Nieuport 11 Bébé. It was powered by a more powerful Le Rhône rotary engine and had a characteristically much narrower lower wing, the sesquiplane layout. Besides the French Air Force it served with British and Russian units and with other operators; the armament consisted of a machine gun above the upper wing, or of a synchronized machine gun.
Clean up the small parts and glue them with thin cement for plastic. The cockpit and the glazing come into their own with an airbrush and period shades; the key step is the rigging, that is the bracing wires between the wings and to the fuselage, which gives a First World War model the right look. A primer and subtle highlighting of the panel lines are worth doing.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
