The Petlyakov Pe-2 was a Soviet twin-engined combat aircraft of the Second World War, used in large numbers as a frontline bomber and in dive bomber and reconnaissance forms. It was among the most widespread machines in its class, and modelers keep coming back to it because of the number of color schemes.

On separately produced wheels the tread pattern and the shape of the hub tend to read better than on parts from a sprue, and the transition between tire and hub is clearer, which makes masking easier. The exact number of parts and which kit they are meant for are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The parts are not polystyrene, so ordinary modeling cement has no effect on them; they are joined with super glue. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder down carefully, so that you do not cut into the outline of the wheel. Before painting, wash the wheels in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let them dry completely, otherwise the paint will not hold. Paint the tire and the hub separately, with masking tape or a template at the boundary. The particular procedure for preparing the parts is given in the manufacturer's instructions; follow them.
The set suits modelers who want to improve the most visible detail of the landing gear on a finished model without rebuilding the whole thing. Changing the wheels is one of the few alterations that show even from a distance. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
