An injection-molded plastic kit of the American SBD-2 carrier dive bomber in 1:72 scale. This is an extended boxing that adds pre-cut masks for the canopy and the tail stripes, resin wheels with a flattened contact patch and a poster. The cockpit and the engine are modeled and the dive brakes can be built in the open position. The decals cover machines from the period of the attack on Pearl Harbor and from carrier air groups.
The Dauntless was the carrier dive bomber of the US Navy and the Marine Corps. Its hallmark was the perforated dive brakes on the trailing edge of the wing, which slowed the machine in a steep dive on the target and at the same time reduced buffeting. The aircraft was slow and not very agile, but exceptionally tough and accurate. The SBD-2 version belonged to the early production runs and served in the first months of the Pacific war.
Finish and paint the cockpit before you close the fuselage. The dive brakes are the most conspicuous feature, so decide whether to build them open, and when painting do not forget the inner surfaces. The early American scheme rests on a blue-gray upper surface and a light underside with a soft transition. Wash and degrease the resin wheels before painting.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
