A plastic kit of the German Sturmgeschütz III Ausf. G assault gun in 1:72 scale from MiniArt. The set is aimed at a particular production stage, that is at vehicles from March 1943 out of the Alkett works. Besides the injection-molded plastic parts it holds clear parts, photo-etched parts and a decal sheet.
The Sturmgeschütz III came about as a tracked gun for direct infantry support and made use of the proven chassis of the Panzer III tank. The Ausf. G version got under way at the end of 1942 and became the most numerous variant of the whole line. It carried a 7.5 cm StuK 40 gun with a barrel length of 48 calibers, which turned what was originally a support vehicle into an effective antitank weapon as well. Vehicles from the spring of 1943 carry details of the early production phase that gradually changed in the later batches, and that is exactly what makes this release interesting for a modeler.
At a small scale it pays to proceed in sections: finish the hull and the running gear first, and only then close up the fighting superstructure. Bend the photo-etched parts over a metal rule or in a bending tool and bond them with super glue in drops. Keep the areas smooth and glossy before the decals, otherwise a white haze will appear under them. The patina carries the whole impression: a darker wash into the recesses and engraved lines, a lighter dry brush on the edges, and dust and mud working from the bottom of the vehicle upward.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
