Responsibility details are not available.
The Supermarine S.4 was a British racing seaplane built for the Schneider Trophy in 1925. It was designed by Reginald Mitchell, the designer who later stood behind the Spitfire, and for its time it was an exceptionally clean machine: a cantilever wing without external bracing, a smooth fuselage and a pair of floats carried on struts. The power came from a Napier Lion engine.
Shortly before the race the aircraft set a world speed record for seaplanes. It did not, however, take part in the trophy itself: it crashed during a flight at the venue and was destroyed. It has therefore survived more in documents and period photographs than in collections, and among modelers it is one of the subjects that were missing from the usual choice for a long time. Its shape, meanwhile, shows the direction the British school of design took in the years that followed.
The kit in 1:72 scale is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The parts count and the recommended sequence are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
On a seaplane the geometry is what decides: the floats have to sit parallel and at the same height, or the finished model will look tilted to one side. It pays to put the strut assembly together dry first and to glue it only after checking it from head-on. A smooth airframe without panel lines is demanding on the quality of the spray, so it is worth sanding the surface carefully and getting the dust off it before painting.
Paints, glue and tools are not in the package, unless stated otherwise.
