A detail set from 77propeller for kits of the early versions of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 (A/B/C/D) in 1:72 scale from AZ and KP. It is not an airplane model but an accessory: the set replaces the plastic wheels from the box with more accurate resin and 3D printed wheels and adds the chassis cover that closes off the landing gear area on the early 109s. The wheels and the landing gear bay are exactly the places where, in a small scale, the difference between plastic from a mold and a fine casting shows at first glance: the tire tread, the hub and the small details of the cover are markedly crisper in resin and 3D printing.

Use and procedure

• Wash the parts first in lukewarm water with detergent: the mold release agent has to come off the surface, otherwise neither primer nor paint will hold.
• Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, never break them off, because resin is brittle.
• Sand only with respiratory protection, ideally wet, because resin dust is harmful to health.
• Bond with super glue (cyanoacrylate); ordinary cement for plastic does not work on resin.
• Lay down a primer before painting, otherwise the paint will not grip the smooth casting well.
• Before gluing, check the dry fit in your particular kit and adjust the mating surfaces if need be.

Who the set is for

For modelers building the early versions of the Bf 109 in 1:72 from the AZ or KP kits who want to lift the landing gear above the standard of the box contents. Working with resin calls for a little experience and different tools than plastic, so the set is rather for more advanced modelers, but the procedure is straightforward and a patient beginner will manage it too.
