1:76 Ancient Britons (Vintage Classics) brings the warriors of the ancient British tribes and their fast war chariots as rendered by the brand Airfix.
Responsibility details are not available.
Another of the historical sets that Airfix has brought back into its range under the Vintage Classics heading. The figures capture the tribal warriors of the islands before the Roman conquest and are supplemented by light war chariots drawn by horses. Everything is injection-molded in plastic, without paint, ready for building.
The British tribes relied on speed and personal courage, not on a closed formation. They went into battle with spears, long swords and oval shields, often half naked and with their bodies painted with a dye meant to frighten the enemy. The chariots served for rapid movement along a line and for attacks on its flanks; a warrior jumped down from one and came back when he needed to withdraw. It is precisely this mobile tactic that the ancient accounts of the expeditions to Britain describe.
For the bare skin use a light flesh shade and add the blue dye that gives the tribes their characteristic look. Trousers and cloaks take muted earth tones with a hint of a checked pattern. The wood of a chariot comes out after a dark wash, and a dry brush polishes up the metal tires of the wheels.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
