The BMW HP4 Race is a track motorcycle built in limited numbers and intended solely for closed circuits, not for road use. Its hallmark is a frame and wheels of carbon fiber composite, thanks to which the machine weighed considerably less than production sports motorcycles, and an inline four-cylinder engine with racing electronics. It is precisely the lightweight construction and the exposed technical detail that make it a rewarding subject for a model.
The model is in 1:9 scale, a size in which the frame, the brakes and the suspension can all be rendered. The pre-colored release means that the plastic sprues are molded in different colors to match the individual parts of the machine.
The pre-colored parts save work, but the gate marks stay light once they are cleaned up, so it pays to have a matching shade ready for touching them in. A motorcycle has many small parts that can no longer be turned once they are glued, so dry-fit everything and glue it in stages. Thin shading in the gaps of the frame and a gentle polish of the exposed metal parts will lift the final impression.
The kit suits modelers who want a motorcycle with plenty of visible engineering and do not want to spend a whole afternoon on painting. Paints, glue and a display case are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
