About product

Kdf.1 Typ 82 Kübelwagen 1:9 (Italeri)

A sizable injection-molded plastic kit of the German light cross-country car Kübelwagen in the attractive large 1:9 scale from Italeri. Thanks to the large scale the finished model has real visual presence (an overall length of about 40 cm) and offers a finely rendered running gear, engine and complete interior. The body allows for opening doors and engine hood and carries the texture of the canvas roof. Besides the plastic parts the package also contains photo-etched parts, clear plastic and decals for several marking options.

The real subject

The Typ 82 Kübelwagen is among the best-known military cars of the Second World War. The vehicle was designed by Ferdinand Porsche and built by Volkswagen; in concept it was the German counterpart of the American Jeep. It was powered by a rear-mounted air-cooled flat-four, and its light, tough construction and simple canvas roof made it an all-purpose light cross-country car used on every front.

Building and painting tips

The large 1:9 scale invites careful building and detailing of the exposed engine and interior before the body is closed. Glue the plastic parts with thin cement for plastic, apply a good primer before painting and spray with an airbrush. For realistic weathering use washes in the recesses and pigments for dust and mud effects on the running gear and in the wheel arches. The texture of the canvas roof comes out with drybrushing and a gentle emphasis on the folds.

Who the model is for

  • collectors of large detailed models of Second World War military vehicles
  • modelers who want to shine on an exposed engine and interior
  • anyone interested in German light vehicles and Jeep counterparts
  • more advanced builders looking for a showpiece for a display case

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
