A plastic kit of the spice harvester from the world of Dune by Meng. A model of the giant mining machine that gathers spice from the surface of desert Arrakis.
Responsibility details are not available.
The spice harvester is a giant mining machine that gathers spice from the surface of the desert on the planet Arrakis. The work is dangerous: the noise and the vibration of the machines attract sandworms, so the harvester works under watch and, if the alarm goes up, a flying carrier has to lift it off the sand in time. The subject therefore does not come across as an elegant machine but as heavy industrial equipment built for a harsh environment.
This is a plastic kit, the parts are on sprues and the model is supplied unassembled. The subject offers large continuous surfaces and busy technical sections, which is a rewarding combination for work with shades and with the surface: dust stands out on a smooth flank, while a wash does so in the shadows within the structure.
Cut the parts from the sprue with a sharp blade a little away from the gate and sand the spot down. On the large surfaces take care over the mold seams, because every unevenness shows on a uniform surface. Wash and degrease the model before painting and lay the paint on in thin coats. A desert machine will take heavy dusting: apply the light dust from below and into the corners where it would really settle, and wipe it away where the crew or the wind would have removed it.
The kit suits modelers who like large machinery and work with surfaces, as well as collectors of subjects from Dune. The package contains the kit; paints, glue and a base are not included, unless stated otherwise.
