A paint-filled marker pen shortens the road from idea to shade to a single movement. Inside the body is a mixing ball, so it is enough to shake the set for a moment and press the tip onto paper a few times and the paint works its way into the fibers by itself. Then you paint straight onto the figure: no thinning, no waiting for the paint on the palette to thicken and no brush washing at the end of the evening.

Dwarves in tabletop games stand and fall on a few characteristic surfaces: a heavy full beard, forged fittings, hard leather and the stone underfoot. It is exactly this combination of motifs that the range of shades is chosen for, so it hangs together and the colors fit into each other even when you layer them over one another.

The paint from the tip covers readily and dries fast. It works best on a figure that has had a base coat; on bare plastic or resin the tip clogs faster and the shade spreads less well. Grading the highlights and shadows works by letting the paint run from the tip onto a flat tile and picking it up with a brush, or by running two tones over each other before the lower layer has dried.

A closed tip means the paint does not set in the air in an open pot. Close the marker pens after use, then, and store them upright with the tip down.

It makes sense for someone who normally paints with a brush too. The tip lays down the base area of a larger part quickly and only the details are refined afterwards, which helps above all when a whole unit of identical figures has to be on the table rather than a single display piece. The time saved on the base layers can then go into the faces and the devices on the shields.
