Enamel, not acrylic

Revell Email Color is a synthetic enamel paint. That is the key difference from acrylics, which are normally thinned with water. Enamel is thinned with Revell Color Mix and cannot be worked with water, just as the two chemistries cannot be mixed with each other. Also choose a varnish over dried enamel that is compatible with enamel, otherwise you risk damaging the finished layer. Note too that Revell runs the same shades in both the enamel and the acrylic range, so it is easy to reach for the wrong one.

How to work with the paints

• Stir the contents of the bottle thoroughly before use and during the work, the pigment settles to the bottom.
• Apply in thin coats; one heavy coat dries unevenly and covers the relief.
• Thin exclusively with a thinner intended for enamel paints, not with water.
• Ventilate when working with enamel, these are solvent-based paints.
• Leave metal and gloss features to the end of the painting, as they are harder to mask over.
