Road markings are a small thing on a model that the eye uncovers at once. A wavy dividing line or a broken line with unequal gaps spoils the impression of an otherwise nicely made road, but leading a thin line along a curved roadway freehand simply cannot be done. This tool solves both: it is flexible, so it can be laid even against a curve, and it keeps the shape it has taken by itself, without your having to hold it with a finger.
The length is 18 inches, that is roughly 45.7 cm, which covers even a longer stretch in one go. The drawing edge is raised above the base, so no paint gets under it and a line does not smear. Besides leading a line itself, the ruler also offers a set of scales: a grid for marking roads in the N, HO and O scales and with it length scales corresponding to forty feet in the same three scales. The widths of parking spaces, sidewalks, country roads and main roads are marked as well.
Besides roads and parking lots it proves itself when drawing up the plan of a layout and when making templates of your own, where it suits to repeat the same curve exactly. It will also serve when laying out a parking lot by a station or when marking a crosswalk, where the regularity of the stripes matters most.
