Foundation White

Vallejo Foundation White - Acrylic Paint 17 ml

This is a modeling paint, not a kit. Foundation White belongs to the Vallejo Model Color range - flat water-based acrylic paints with a high pigment content, which the manufacturer developed mainly for brush application. The paint is on the thick side and has to be thinned before airbrushing (with water or a thinner for acrylics). The package is the classic 17 ml dropper bottle.

Foundation White is a cold, neutral white - the manufacturer's catalog now also lists it under the name Cold White. That cool tone is its main distinction: unlike creamy and ivory whites it does not turn yellow, so it suits everywhere that white has to stay really white. In the range it stands right next to the basic white, and its name points to its role as a foundation, undercoat white.

Use

• A light base under yellow, orange and red - those shades cover badly on their own and come out far more saturated over a white base.
• Winter camouflage and oversprayed winter finishes on vehicles.
• National insignia, stripes, lettering and numbers painted directly on the model.
• Lightening other shades when mixing, and highlighting edges.
• White surfaces of interiors, ship superstructures and civil vehicles.

Application tips

With white one rule holds more than with any other paint: never apply it in one heavy coat. White has the poorest coverage of all colors, and a heavy coat floods the detail before the surface stops showing through. Apply two or three thin coats instead and let them dry; ideally over a light primer, over which you need far fewer coats than over dark plastic.

The paint is water-thinnable, but airbrushing still creates an aerosol - work in a well-ventilated space or at an extraction booth and protect your airways with a respirator. Keep out of the reach of children. Close the bottle carefully after use.
