What a cyan primary color can do

Cyan is one of the three primary colors from which the color wheel is mixed. Together with magenta and yellow it forms the trio that covers a substantial part of the shades you need on a model without your having to keep fifty bottles on the shelf. The shade under the designation HCR-01 is the cool, blue-green one of that trio, in a gloss finish on a water base.

How it mixes

With yellow, cyan gives a whole range of greens, from a fresh grass green to a dark forest green, depending on how much of each you add. With magenta it leads to blues and on to purples. On its own it also serves as a correction: a drop of cyan cools a shade that looks too warm or too rusty once mixed. Primary colors are strong, so add them drop by drop and note the ratio down whenever a shade comes out well. Always mix a little more than you think you need, because hitting exactly the same tone a second time is hard.

The gloss finish

A gloss surface is not merely a matter of looks. Under decals it is precisely the gloss that keeps the carrier film from lightening around the print, because no air bubbles are left under a decal laid on a smooth surface. The degree of sheen of the finished area is then set with a final clear coat, according to whether the aircraft is meant to look new or weathered.

Application and terms of supply

Stir the contents thoroughly before use. Choose the thinner and the thinning ratio according to the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging, and the same goes for cleaning your tools. The package contains paint in the stated shade; a model, brushes, thinner and clear coat are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
