A resin 3D printed set replaces the landing gear wheels of a model of the MiG-29 in 1:32 scale. The wheels show the deformation of the tire under the weight of the aircraft, so the model sits naturally on its surface. The set of the same name with the 3D suffix is cut for the 3D printed landing gear legs from Temp Models; this variant states no such tie.

The real subject

The MiG-29 is a Soviet twin-engine fourth-generation tactical fighter, built for operation from unpaved surfaces as well. The nose leg carries a pair of wheels and is fitted with a guard against thrown-up stones, while the main legs retract into the fuselage. The tires are low-pressure and clearly settled on a machine standing still, which is the detail that adds most to the credibility of a finished model. The hubs and the definition of the tread differ according to the version.

Building and painting tips

First wash the 3D printed parts in warm water with a little dish soap, so that they are rid of the residue of printing resin. Cut the supports off with a sharp blade or a fine saw as close to the part as possible and sand the marks down with your airways protected. Resin does not bond with cement for polystyrene, so use cyanoacrylate glue. Lay a thin coat of primer on before painting, otherwise the paint holds poorly on a smooth print. Fit the weighted wheels so that the flattened part of the tire sits on the surface, otherwise the model does not stand naturally.
