Resin 3D printed wheels for a model of the MiG-29 SMT in 1:32 scale with the deformation of the tires under the weight of the aircraft. From the set of the same name without the 3D suffix it differs in being designed for the 3D printed landing gear legs from Temp Models, not for the legs from the kit. Choose according to whether you will be replacing the landing gear legs as well.

The real subject

The MiG-29 SMT came about as an upgrade of the MiG-29 tactical fighter. The enlarged fuselage spine took more fuel and new onboard equipment, which raised the take-off weight. The landing gear therefore works with greater loads than on the basic version and the tires are clearly settled on an aircraft standing still. Printed wheels carry this state over into scale without the compromises an injection mold calls for.

Building and painting tips

First wash the 3D printed parts in warm water with a little dish soap, so that they are rid of the residue of printing resin. Cut the supports off with a sharp blade or a fine saw as close to the part as possible and sand the marks down with your airways protected. Resin does not bond with cement for polystyrene, so use cyanoacrylate glue. Lay a thin coat of primer on before painting, otherwise the paint holds poorly on a smooth print. Fit the weighted wheels so that the flattened part of the tire sits on the surface, otherwise the model does not stand naturally.
