A covering white, not a primer

The paint is intended as a covering shade on finished surfaces, not as a base under other colors. The tone is not entirely pure white; it has a barely perceptible warm cast shifted toward cream, of the kind found on the finishes of car bodies and of surfaces exposed to light. On a model it suits anywhere white is meant to be the final color.

Paint properties

The water-based binder gives a fine satin after drying that will take decals. The water-based binder also means that water is enough on absorbent materials, while on smooth plastic the brand's own thinner is more reliable. It cannot be mixed with the lacquer ranges from the same manufacturer.

Advice on application

• White covers worst of all shades, so allow for more coats
• Apply thin coats, because white floods engraved detail faster than other colors
• It pays to lay a light primer under white rather than the paint alone
• The pigment settles to the bottom, so stir it before the work and during it

If you need a real base under a covering color, reach for a primer, that is for a product intended for the purpose. A covering white will even the base out optically, but it will not raise the adhesion of further coats the way a primer does.

Where a covering white finds use

• White areas of fuselages, recognition stripes and numbers
• Interiors where the surface is meant to be light
• Mixing lighter shades out of darker paints
• Drybrushing edges on dark areas

All-white surfaces are among the most demanding finishes there are, because they have nowhere to hide an unevenness. It pays to hold the model by its base or in gloves right to the end of the work, because a fingerprint shows on white paint even after a clear coat has gone on.
