A neutral dark gray shade from the water-based acrylic range Hobby Color. The first of two close dark grays in the original palette, 10 ml.

Few shades appear on the modeling bench as often as a dark neutral gray. It pulls neither toward blue nor toward brown, so it suits the places where pure black would look dead: rubber parts, the areas below an exhaust outlet, metal stands, the insides of cockpits or the asphalt surface of an airfield layout.
Its second use is in shading. Mixed into a base shade it gives a version one tone darker, which is sprayed into the seams between panels, into recesses and into the places under overhangs. The modeler gains depth without reaching for black, which flattens the surface at once and takes its color away.
The original palette contains two dark gray tones distinguished by a serial number. The difference between them is slight and serves to separate neighboring areas subtly, for example when a camouflage field is to be set apart from a shadow without affecting the overall impression.
The paint is built on an acrylic binder thinnable with water, so after work it is enough to rinse the brush in water. It goes on with a brush and with an airbrush, it dries quickly and it dries to a semi-matte. The bottle holds 10 ml, an amount that lasts a long time in ordinary shading work.
It combines without trouble with the other shades of the same palette, so you can prepare a transition scale of your own and decant it into empty jars. Wipe the thread of the cap after work; dried paint on it will in time prevent the bottle from closing and the contents will dry out. Store it upright and never in the frost.
