U-STAR Masking Tape 30 mm

A wide masking tape 30 mm across from the manufacturer U-STAR. It is a modeling aid, not a kit — it serves to cover the places that must not get paint during spraying.

A modeling masking tape is not the same thing as ordinary household tape. It has a low, controlled tack: it adheres enough for paint not to seep under it, yet when it is peeled off it does not lift the layer of paint or the primer beneath it. Its edge is cut sharply, so the transition between colors comes out as a sharp line, and once removed it leaves no adhesive behind — no sticky traces stay on the model that would then have to be cleaned off laboriously.

Use

• Fast covering of large areas — you will mask wings, fuselages, hulls, roofs and the sides of vehicles with a few strips instead of dozens of narrow ones.
• Masking whole sections at once for two-color paint jobs and when spraying the lower surfaces.
• Fewer seams = less risk: the fewer transitions between pieces of tape, the fewer places where paint can seep under.
• A base for cutouts — from the wide tape you can cut a mask of any shape with a knife or a cutting ruler, for instance the outline of a camouflage patch.
• Protection of finished parts of the model and holding parts in place while painting or gluing.

Who it is for

For everyone who sprays with an airbrush or a rattle can and needs to separate one area from another reliably. The wide width pays off on larger scales, on aircraft, vehicles and ships. For thin lines, glazing frames and curves reach for the narrow variant of the same tape — a wide tape breaks and crinkles on a curve.

Press the tape down carefully along the whole edge before spraying and peel it off at a sharp angle while the paint is still freshly dried. Apply it to a freshly painted surface only once the paint has cured.
