Metallic Copper in a Bottle

The shade imitates freshly machined copper — a warm, reddish-shifted metal with a fine sheen that behaves differently on a model than an ordinary opaque paint. The pigment consists of microscopic metal flakes, which settle to the bottom faster than ordinary pigments. Shake the bottle thoroughly before every use, otherwise the spray coat will come out uneven.

The best result comes from applying it over a smooth, dark, perfectly leveled surface. Neither file marks nor sanding scratches are hidden by metallic shades — quite the opposite, they get highlighted. Typical uses: copper piping and boilers on steam engines, tanks and basins, wiring, straps and fittings on ship models, or worn edges where bare metal is meant to show through the paint.

The capacity is 10 ml. The carrier is a nitro lacquer, so both thinning and cleaning the airbrush are handled by Mr. Color Thinner or its leveling variant; water will not thin this paint. The ratio depends on the desired consistency and is typically around 1:1 to 2:1. The line is designed primarily for spray-gun application and, once dry, forms a hard, durable film.

The same line also includes steel, silver, bright silver, chrome, gold, and burnished metal shades. Copper stands out among them with a noticeably warmer tone and mixes well into gold when you need a metal with an older, more weathered look. To increase the shine, it can be lightly polished with a soft cloth once dry.

Metallic shades do not tolerate a matte varnish topcoat — it instantly kills their sparkle and turns them gray. If you want to protect the surface, use a gloss or semi-gloss varnish and expect a slight loss of sparkle. For this reason, the purest metal finish is usually the last layer applied to a model.
