Mr.Color is a large system divided into lines that differ in purpose as much as in behaviour on the model. Beside the core range of opaque shades sit specialist lines for air and naval subjects, clear and effect colours, and tones created specifically for robot kits.
The paints are known for a very thin, smooth film that will not flood engraved panel lines, and they dry quickly. Below is a short map of which line does what and how the groups differ in practice.
The prefix in front of the shade number identifies the line and therefore the properties of the paint. There is no need to learn them all; it is enough to know which one your build needs. The lines are not interchangeable by accident, each has its own logic and its own job.
The C line is the backbone of the range. It holds aircraft and naval shades to traceable standards, from deck colours to hull greys, and serves as the main covering coat.
The GX line brings clear shades and richer gloss tones that go onto a smooth ground. Alongside it sit specialist series such as the HMS series and the HTN line, each with its own focus.
The CL line covers flesh, hair and glossy basic tones, while the Gundam shades are mixed to the colour schemes of specific machines from that series.
Spraying these paints suits equipment from the airbrush section, because a thin film shows at its best when laid in several fine coats. For a comparison with other brands, see the acrylic model paints overview.
